Glass Bowl Casting Course (2 days) 22-23 February 2025
Glass Bowl Casting Course (2 days) 22-23 February 2025
If you want to learn the fundamentals of lost wax glass casting, this 2 day course is an ideal way to begin. No previous knowledge is necessary although if you have worked with glass before I'm sure you will pick up new skills and ideas.
Each student will receive a wax bowl form on day one. From this you will spend time designing and carving the wax to create your own personalised design.
We will then work through the lost wax glass casting process to transform your design into glass.
Who is it for and how many will be on the course
The course is limited to 4 participants to ensure time for 1:1 teaching as well as small group discussions.
This course is suitable for beginners and improvers.
When
Saturday/Sunday March 23/24 2025
10am - 4pm each day
Where
The course takes place in my own studio in Surrey, near J6 M25. The workshop is near Blindley Heath, the nearest train station is South Godstone. See address and map on contact page.
What to bring
Apron & notebook (we will also have disposable aprons available for use)
Face mask for plaster mixing, or we can provide disposable ones on the day.
All participants must wear closed toe flat shoes. I will give a short H&S Induction at the start of the course.
Please note, any students disregarding H&S information will be asked to leave the course, no refund will be given.
Materials
All basic materials and a clear glass cast are included in the course fee. More specialised glass billets and colours can be purchased from the studio. The course covers the production of one mould, any additional moulds made will be charged before firing if space allows. Once cooled, your casts will be de-moulded by us, cleaned up and given a frosted finish. There are other in house finishing options at additional costs that can be discussed during the course.
Collecting Work
As your cast will be in the kiln at the end of the course so will need to be collected at a later date by arrangement. We can also arrange for them to be sent on to you by courier for a fee. We will be in touch to arrange this with you after the course has finished.
Food & Accommodation
We do not provide food or accommodation at the studio, students are asked to bring a packed lunch and arrange their own transport and any overnight stays.
We have free tea & coffee making facilities, a fridge freezer and a microwave for heating food. We will also have biscuits for tea time!
Please bear in mind the studio is in a semi rural location and there are no local shops within walking distance.
WiFi is available at the studio, however the phone signal can be intermittent at times due to the countryside location.
